Enoch was called "the seventh from Adam" because he was the in the seventh generation from Adam. Genesis chapter 5 tells us that Adam had a son named Seth who had a son named Mahalaleel who had a son named Jared who had a son named Enoch. We learn very little from his mention in Genesis 5:18-24. All we are told is that his father is Jared, his son Methuselah was born when he was 65 years old, he had more sons and daughters and he left this earth when he was 365 years old. Verses 22 and 24 say (22) And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: (24) And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. In other words, he did not die. God just took him up into Heaven. As for verse 22 it sounds like he did not follow the Lord's teachings or he wasn't as committed to following Him before the birth of Methuselah. Maybe something changed with the birth of that sweet baby boy that made him realize he needed to be close or get closer to God. We will never know on this side of Heaven about those first 65 years but there is some significance in his life during that time or that would not have been put in there. Hebrews 11:5 says: By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. According to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance the word translate means to transport, carry over, remove. Jude 14 says: And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of His saints, (15) To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.
There is not much mentioned about Enoch in the King James Version of the Bible. However, in Jude 14 you get the idea that maybe there was a book written by him. What we read in the Bible is not all of the story about these people. For instance, when Adam and Eve came out of the Garden of Eden God did not just leave them to figure things out on their own. He continued to talk to them and help them but these things are not mentioned. I have found in the Forgotten Books of Eden and the Lost Books of the Bible a book called The Book of the Secrets of Enoch. In this book it tells of God taking Enoch into Heaven not once but twice. The first time he is taken up he is shown the creation and the end times. He is also shown all the wonders and beauty of Heaven and he gets to talk to God face to face. He is told to write some things down and when he is done there are 366 books. He is told he will go back to earth for a short while and during this time he needs to give these books to his sons and tell them the significance of teaching from them and passing them down.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have a book that they read in addition to the King James Version - Pearl of Great Price. In it there are books that were supposed to have been written along the same time as the Bible and for some reason or other have not made it into the King James Version. One of the books is the Book of Moses. In Chapters 6 and 7 it says that God commands Enoch to put clay on his eyes and after he does so he sees great visions.
I don't know which one of these are correct or if they are both wrong but I refuse to dismiss any book for fear that I may be missing something my Heavenly Father is trying to tell me. I do know there are books that are mentioned in the King James Version but are not in there. It is possible that they have been destroyed or maybe it is not the time for us to discover them yet.
What we do know is that God did give Enoch visions or he would not have been able to prophesy like he did. When we decide to spend all our time with God He will bless us in many unimaginable ways. I'm not saying quit your job and ignore your family. What I am saying is that if you are willing to give that much time to Him, He will provide enough time for everything else that you need to be doing in addition to your alone time with Him.
It is not my intention to lead anyone astray with my teachings on other non King James Version books. I am trying to keep your mind open to the fact that there are other books (according to the King James) and that we never know what God is bringing into our midst by the discoveries of things such as the Dead Sea Scrolls. Before you believe anything 100% I ask you to pray and ask God's guidance in keeping you from being deceived by anything you read and hear. I pray before I begin my study. With the way these other books have come into my presence I feel like they are acceptable from God but I still prayed before using them.
May God bless you in everything you do and have a wonderful day.
