The other night God taught me the true meaning of forgiveness and I thought I would share it with you. Someone had treated me very badly a long time ago and I have been trying to forgive them and it has seemed impossible. Now, I can truly say I have forgiven this person.
Forgiveness is not saying that it was okay that someone hurt you and you will allow them to keep doing it. It is accepting that God, in His infinite wisdom, let it happen so that you would move your stubborn feet into His chosen path for you and you will end up at the destination He had planned for you before the beginning of the world.
Jeremiah 1:5 says: Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordanined thee a prophet unto the nations.
He is not only speaking to Jeremiah the prophet but He is also telling us that He has plans for each of us and that if we seek His will, He will get us there. It is not always a smooth and pleasant trip. There are turns, potholes, misunderstanding directions, curves, delays, and many other things just like when we take a road trip. We see these as minor inconveniences because we know the end will be an exciting and happy time.
Just keep this in mind when troubles come your way and keep your eyes on our precious Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ because He alone is our compass and will never lead us wrong. He will, however, get us back on the right path when we take off on our own and get lost.
This is why we should always thank Him for not only the good in our life but also for the bad. The bad are the stop lights, stop signs, detour ahead, etc. that make us take a moment and look again at our map for further instructions.
I hope this has helped someone like it has helped me. Even though Jesus says in Matthew that if you don't forgive others God won't forgive you, I feel like if you are wanting to forgive someone and you are asking Him to help you forgive them that He will still forgive you no matter how long it takes because of the willingness in your heart.
May each journey you take be a God filled one so that the end will be joyous.
